Here we go with the second DEV tutorial.
This time we go a bit further enhancing the previous scrolling engine so we can have smooth scrolling.

Primera 0.2 is still on development.
In the meantime I’ve decided to add a new site section: DEV.
Since I’ve learned some interesting things while working on this project I think is now time to share some info with you.
My first tutorial is about 2d scrolling.
In addition here are some screen shots about the new combat system I’m working on:

Enjoy. Primera is online, again.
All does seem to work but I still need to move some Avatar files (unfortunately FileZilla is having problems with large number of files all contained inside one single directory and I need to move all avatar files into a new folder placed outside the HTTP root [so files are not accessible using just an URL]).
Of course, there is a lot of work to be done…
I’ve added a nice favicon icon (I’ve used this two great free icon editors: PixelToolBox and @Icon sushi)
Byez.

ehm.. I’ve been very busy in the last two weeks (work, work, work).
As some of you have noticed Primera is down for maintenance. I am currently rewriting the main Primera Perl engine but this requires a lot of time. In the meantime I’ve decided to take Primera down until I am able to develop a little (really needed) fix about multiuser checking… but don’t worry… Prima will be back online soon.
Ciao!!!

Well.. the next step are NPCs..
I really would like Primera to become a ‘real’ dhtml RPG browser-based game. Of course there are (and there always will be) some limitations related to the ‘poor’ technologies I am currently using.. (a web browser and some javascript code are not the best instruments to develop multiplayer games/apps) but, hey!, this is the fun part.

Ta-da! A new site section is born. I’ve added some Primera screenshots for curious people out there.
Thanks goes to Jon Aldinger, Mark Huot, Dan Mall, creators of swIFR.
I’ve used their script (a nice combination of js/flash) to spice up the pictures.

Yep.. after some days of silence here I am with another little fix.
I’ve greatly improved login and logout routines. This will allow all Primerians to move around the map and see all currently logged Avatars without the previous ‘blinking’ bug.
At this state i think that the engine allows ‘fluent’ conversation between avatars.

I’ve written up a little backup script up to safely backup all avatars. Unfortunately this action will replace all data (for this time only) with a backup done today at 11.35 a.m. (GMT +1).
