What’s next?

Well.. the next step are NPCs..
I really would like Primera to become a ‘real’ dhtml RPG browser-based game. Of course there are (and there always will be) some limitations related to the ‘poor’ technologies I am currently using.. (a web browser and some javascript code are not the best instruments to develop multiplayer games/apps) but, hey!, this is the fun part.
mmm.. there are some good news.. I’ve tested a special alpha version of Primera with Gran Paradiso (Firefox 3) and its new rendering engine (called Cairo) it’s really, really, really fast. Primerians will love this new engine.
Ok.. turning back to the present.. here’s my developing Primera-new-features program for the next few months. I’ve planned that Primera v0.1.60 will support:
- friendly NPCs (non playing characters)
- avatar inventory
- avatar stats (will be based on simplified D&D character stats) including hit points, experience points and level
- Monsters
- Combat engine (based on simplified D&D turn-based combat rules)
I am actually working on a new place called The Arena. Here all Avatar will be able to combat against monsters or just watch other combatants.
For now.. the next release of the Primera engine will be able to handle friendly NPCs.
Bye for now.
I can’t believe it!
I am the author of the game Lost Labyrinth and I recently decided to write a new version using ajax.
So I started to browse the web for games that use similar techniques.
And then I found your page!
You are doing exactely what I want to do.
I would like it a lot if we could join forces in some way.
Basically I need a point to start coding.
Could you give me some assistance?
Or maybe I could help you coding?
(I am working as a web developer every day, so I already know a lot about servers and php, I just have to improve my ajax skills)
Hope to here from you soon.
Markus
Whoa! Laby is really cool!
I’ve been playing it a bit and I really like it
I really like the atmosphere you have created with your game.. (purebasic seems powerful!) starting from the fancy 8-bit graphics (those avatar sprites are lovely :p).
At current state your project is far more complete than Primera (e.g. the ability tree is huge and very detailed!) and I don’t know if Primera will ever reach such complexity (even if I’m trying hard).
About your help proposal
Currently I am the only developer and this allows me to follow my own time-line and jump between coding, graphics, interface developing, ecc. just following my mood and my free time.
Working in a team, instead, requires an accurate project definition, a precise assignment of roles and a lot of time to keep everybody’s work coordinated.
I think I’ll be ready to do all of this as soon as Primera reach the first beta (I am currently working on alpha version 0.2).
Anyway, it’s to early to even start thinking about all of this. I’ll be glad to help you, so just tell me what you need.
If after seeing my code (a bit messy indeed) you still think that working with me could be of any interest for you we’ll see
I’ve opened a new Group in the forums (http://primera.sebastian.it/wordpress/?page_id=3&forumaction=showforum&forum=4) here I will try to post any code-related info about Primera.
Ok,
feel free to contact me directly by mail (gatoloco@sebastian.it) or by posting in the Forums.
Thank you for your interest in Primera!
Bye!!!!!
Seba.
